Can't We All just Get Along?

I think deep down on both sides of the 'God debate' most people just want to live in peace. Unfortunately that is superceeded by our strong feelings and opinions about the other side. Most of the time we do get along . It's only when we wear our opinions on our sleeves that we are reminded of our dislike and distrust of those who we disagree with.

Most Atheists want freedom of religion, but also believe that religion is a sham and a detrement to individual freedom. We also hold a great deal of anger towards religion's attempt to influence politics and science.

To a believer, a non-believer is someone who chooses to live a life without a greater purpose. We are foolish not to live by the word and rules of God and even more so to question them. They see Atheists as trying to re-interpret the laws as anti-religious and re-write our religious history and heritige.

Only in a secular society can both sides seem to cooperate and endure friendships. The more society sways towards one side or the other, whether promoting religion or being hostile towards it, our differences and strong opinions come to the forefront and our ability to get along diminishes.

"I am a christian who is in love with, and plan to marry an atheist. I think BOTH sides would do well to learn this very valuable word.. Respect. If both sides of the theism/atheism debate would learn to respect the other side's right to disagree and stop trying to force our opinions on one another, the world would be a much more peaceful place to inhabit for all who journey here.
Since when is it ok a crime to be a non-conformist? I believe we all have a right to our own opinions, ideas, thoughts, and yes, beliefs, or lack thereof.
There needs to be more tolerance and respect for differences and less hatred on all sides of this coin. That's a lesson both sides need to learn! "

An Atheist's prayer was answered by God

An Atheist and God
An atheist was taking a walk through the woods. He said to himself:
What majestic trees! What powerful rivers! What beautiful animals!"
As he was walking alongside the river he heard a rustling in the bushes behind him.

He turned to look.
He saw a 7 foot grizzly bear charge towards him.
He ran as fast as he could up the path.

He looked over his shoulder and saw that the bear was closing in on him.
He looked over his shoulder again, and the bear was even closer.

He tripped and fell on the ground.
He rolled over to pick himself up but saw the bear right on top of him,
reaching for him with his left paw and raising his right paw to strike him.

The Atheist cried out: "Oh, my God!..."

Time stopped. The bear froze.

The forest was silent.
As a bright light shone upon the man, a booming voice came out of the sky:
"You deny my existence for all of these years, teach others I don't exist,
and even credit creation to a cosmic accident.

Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament?
Am I to count you as a believer?"

The atheist looked directly into the light,
"It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask You to treat me as a Christian now,
but perhaps you could
make the BEAR a Christian?"

"Very well," said the voice.

The light went out.

The sounds of the forest resumed.
The bear dropped his right paw,
brought both paws together and lifted his head toward heaven and spoke:

"Lord, bless this food,
which I am about to receive from thy bounty
through Christ our Lord,
Amen."

really, that blasphemy against the holy spirit stuff, if you make one of those videos, all your doing is being stupid.
the fact is, as much as you don't believe in the threatening statement in the bible that says if you blaspheme the holy spirit you can't be forgiven, you still don't know for sure if it's true or not.

so, what do you get from making that video if you're right? nothing.
what do you get from making that video if you're wrong, eternal damnation.

a brilliant decision it is, to blaspheme the holy spirit.

btw, if you don't know what i mean about the holy spirit blasphemy videos, then go to youtube.com and look up "blasphemy challenge".

there are actually people on youtube.com that make videos of themselves "blaspheming the holy spirit" because of what it says in the bible. where it says, "the only sin that can't be forgiven is blasphemy against the holy spirit"

my question, what are they trying to prove?
"that we're not afraid." they say.
who are you trying to prove that too, us believers don't want you to be afraid, we want you saved! and let's give you the benefit of the doubt. there is no heaven, and no God. then we believe in imaginary things that have changed our life and made us new, and we want you to benefit from them too.
oh, what evil people we are. the fact is, there is a God and if you don't believe in him because you "don't see him", then uh...
OPEN YOUR EYES.

I'm an agnostic; some label me a weak atheist... Whatever I am, the way I think is the only way that makes sense to me. So long as we live in this reality, there will never exist a way to positively determine the [non] existence of a God. This being the case, it is hardly worth talking about. Unfortunately, blind followers (including members of my own family) never stop attacking the idea that one might not exist... I'm tired of defending myself against something for which there is no proof; it is disgustingly wasteful.

Its interesting to see people who follow a religion that according to them is based on peace acting in such a manner.

here's something to think about.
although i don't consider myself
an atheist, i was quite amused with
an announcement by earl roberts a few
years back that if he couldn't raise a million dollars by a certain date, that God was going
to call him home.what was he afraid of....that he would die and go to
heaven?

USA BABY!!!! Oh, sorry, I always get pumped when I click on the US of A on a drop down list. WE'RE NUMBER ONE! WHOOOO!!! But anyway, here's a thought exercise I think would be fun... take the thoughts and words of god as laid out in the bible, torah (tora? toruh?), and koran and subject them to a psychological analysis/screening. I'm guessing that god/yahweh/jehovah/allah/big kahuna would be found to be clinically insane and a threat to itself and others and recommended for immediate involuntary committal.

You would be very mistakened if you think religion is harmless and we should just let them be. Religion creates hatred and fuels wars. Organized religion is an evil that steals from the old, needy, and disabled. The church preys on those who have the least to give and those that need the most. They sell a show and give false hope in return, using fear to guilt money from your wallet. Preachers are lying thieving con artist, the whole lot of them and they know it. The truth is, they don't know either. And to take money from needy people for something they know good and well they don't know for sure themselves, is just plain wrong. Religion is wrong.

Christianity in my opinion is just something used to cover up ones own fear of demise, to believe in this is to cover ones own fear of death and to those who refuse to, they shine the truth onto something Christians don't want to see or admit is right.
